an ode to the rhododendron thickets and water and natural beauty

lyrics

there's a verdant grove right down the old road with a tangle of rhododendron
and a stream cascading down the shadowed hollow
taking dreams too dark to mention
i hide in the leaves and there i grieve
the loss of an old self, demons, lovers
but this twisty wood, it perseveres
like the tangle of skins and blood it covers

on western hills the juniper
used to hold our hearts and other living things
but now, as we hide in these green mountainsides
the spirit of the rhododendron sings

there ain't a town for miles in any direction
those were all burned in the white world expansion
you might see a gated holiday mansion
but none of fhat matters - green is the cure...

there is no greater taste than burnt earwax
but flowering flesh and wood and warm leaves
a sunset walk can be better than sex
and i may find myself on my knees
tangled in brush and the wolf's eyelash
seasons of love and the dance of spring
oh how i long for its soft embrace
more than any other thing....
